The Edmonton Oilers will be looking to build on a steady performance in Monday’s decisive 6-3 victory over Chicago when they take on the Blackhawks on Wednesday in Game 3 of their qualifying series as -140 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Powered by Connor McDavid’s first career playoff hat trick, Edmonton turned the tables on Chicago following a stunning Game 1 loss, leading the way in most key stats in a victory that evens the series at one game apiece going into Wednesday night’s matchup at Rogers Place.
Oilers vs Blackhawks | OddsShark Matchup Report
Unable to capitalize on the early lead that McDavid provided with a first-period power play goal, the Oilers fell flat in a 6-4 loss in Game 1. However, the club responded well on Monday, outshooting and outhitting the Blackhawks to pick up the win and avoid being pushed to the brink of elimination.
Two goals from McDavid in the first 4:05 immediately put the Blackhawks on their heels in the first period, but Chicago then rallied to tie the game in the second period. However, after withstanding the Blackhawks onslaught and sealing the win with a pair of unanswered third-period markers, the Oilers have emerged as -155 favourites on the series prices at betting sites, and as a +175 wager to finish off the Blackhawks in four games.
Clearly, McDavid has been a game-changer for Edmonton. The Oilers captain has been spectacular in the first two games of the series, scoring four times and adding two assists. It proved to be a tougher road for Leon Draisaitl in Game 2. After tallying three points in Game 1, the German was held off the scoresheet and failed to get a shot on goal in Monday’s win.
Chicago returns to action in Game 3 looking for answers, and lagging as a +120 underdog on the betting lines. The Blackhawks were effective at shutting down the Oilers offence at even strength in their Game 1 win, but failed to duplicate that feat on Monday, surrendering five goals in five-on-five situations while being outshot by a wide 35-26 margin.
The Blackhawks were also outhustled by Edmonton, with the Oilers outhitting them by a 27-10 margin and holding a 22-14 edge in blocked shots. Despite Chicago’s struggles, the total remains set at 6.5 for Wednesday’s contest, but with the UNDER slightly favoured at -115.
