Welcome to the yearly wrap up of the top read articles over the last year!
There was one notable player missing from the Oilers start of their return-to-play training camp — Caleb Jones.
Deemed ‘unfit to practice’ as noted by the league, Jones was actually recovering from a COVID-19 diagnosis.
I wrote about it on July 13th and it was the seventh most-read article this year.
Here’s the short piece I wrote:
As the Edmonton Oilers take to the ice at Rogers Place for the first day of their return to play training camp, the team is without defenceman Caleb Jones. The Oilers have deemed Jones ‘unfit to practice’ as the rest of his teammates hit the ice Monday morning.According to TSN’s Ryan Rishaug, Jones will reportedly hit the ice with a smaller group of players later; OilersNation’s Jason Gregor reported that Jones has been in Edmonton for over a week.https://twitter.com/JasonGregor/status/1282726046907813888With NHL training camps kicking off across the NHL, the league is handling all injury reports for teams across the league. For any player who tests positive, the NHL and its teams will not be identifying specific cases without prior approval from the NHL or NHLPA.As noted by Sportsnet’s Mark Spector, it appears that Jones may be nursing some kind of nick or injury.
