Yeah, the Edmonton Oilers are back.
On Thursday evening, the Oilers played the fourth game on their five-game road trip, taking on the Boston Bruins. They won their second consecutive game, beating the Bruins 3-1 to move to 17-12-6. Let’s take a look at what went on in this one!
With just over six minutes left in the first period, the Oilers opened the scoring. On a power play, Connor McDavid stood patiently beside the net and passed it to a trailing Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The longest tenured Oiler tapped it in to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead.
The Bruins fired back with a power play of their own, as Pavel Zacha received a defence-splitting pass with speed, earning a breakaway. A quick forehand-backhand move quickly made it 1-1.

Quinn Hutson got on the board with about five minutes left in the second period. Former Bruin Max Jones took a shot, which was saved by Jeremy Swayman. Hutson was the first on the rebound, backhanding it into the back of the net.

The Bruins had a power play early in the third period, but it was the Oilers that managed to score. Nugent-Hopkins found McDavid with speed, leading to a breakaway. McDavid did McDavid things to score on the breakaway to make it 3-1.

Takeaways…
As good as that win was, there was some bad news. In the second period, Tristan Jarry left the game with an apparent injury after sliding to his right. Jarry looked solid in his 36 minutes, stopping 12 of 13 shots. His replacement, Calvin Pickard, stopped all 12 shots he faced. Hopefully, it’s not a long-term thing for Jarry, as that will be a little worrisome for the Oilers.
Aside from that, it was a pretty good game for the Oilers. Quinn Hutson looked strong, scoring his first goal in his six and a half minutes of ice time over 12 shifts. There’s a strong argument that he should see some time on the third line before the holiday break.
Connor McDavid picked up a goal and an assist, moving him into a tie for the most points this season. Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche don’t play on Thursday, so McDavid will be tied for the league lead for at least a day. McDavid is also in the top five for goals with 21.
Trent Frederic made his return to Boston and had a solid game, looking engaged and nearly scoring. Max Jones also returned, picking up an assist on Hutson’s goal. It was a solid game for the fourth line, as they scored the only even strength goal.
The Oilers have won their last six games in Boston, and this was the final road game against an Eastern Conference team this season. Their road trip still has one more game, as they head to St. Paul to take on the Minnesota Wild on Saturday at 1:00 PM ET.
