Two positive COVID-19 tests have forced Team Canada into a 14-day quarantine period in Red Deer.
First reported by TSN’s Ryan Rishaug, Hockey Canada says “all players, coaches and staff” are considered close contacts of two positive tests and “are therefore subject to mandatory 14-day quarantine period.”
“Upon learning of the positive tests on Monday, the decision was made to suspend all camp activities and quarantine players and staff immediately,” Hockey Canada said in a statement. “As per Hockey Canada’s safety protocols, all players, coaches and staff members will go through additional testing before resuming any camp activities.
“We remain in constant communication with the appropriate health authorities, and we appreciate and thank Alberta Health Services for its dedication to ensuring the health and safety of our players, staff and the community at large.”
The positive tests were announced Tuesday morning ahead of what was supposed to be a day filled with a scrimmage in the morning and cuts later in the day.
This process will see players and staff members work over Zoom, Rishaug reported. It also means that upcoming games against the University of Alberta Golden Bears this weekend in Red Deer have been cancelled.
