Last week I put out the call for you photoshop aficionados to fire up your Internet machines and put together an Oilers twist on some famous fights. Over the week I received dozens of entries, and after some serious debate we’ve come up with five finalists. Today we start the process of finding our winner for the Violent Gentlemen photoshop contest.
After sorting through dozens of entries, and struggling to pair things down, we are set with your six photoshop finalists. It goes without saying that deciding on only six finalists isn’t my favourite part of the job, but it has to be done! Before we get to the finalists and voting, I wanted to remind you all about the theme of this contest. For this contest, we’re looking for the entry that best describes a famous fight with an Oilers twist. 

1) CONNOR VS VADER

I think even the most ardent Star Wars fan would agree that the dark side would have no chance with Connor McDavid using the force. I picture a world where Darth Vader grabs the keys to the Death Star only to turn it around and park it back at the dark side parkade for fear of what Connor McDavid will do to him. The force is strong with this one. 

2) OILERS FIGHT CLUB

My lanta look at the abs on Connor McDavid! *swoon* I can only assume that this six pack is what has Taylor Hall and Lil Nugey smiling like that and who can blame them? Connor McDavid certainly is something to behold. Judging from the characters in this picture I would guess that the first rule of fight club is to not talk about fight club and make sure little Nugey is in bed before 9pm. 

3) HE IS THE ONE

Remember when Connor McDavid went to see the oracle only to have her tell him that he wasn’t the one? After avoiding capture by the agents in the walls of that building Connor took it upon himself to save Morpheus, and restore order to Zion if only temporarily. As you can see in the picture above, peace was short lived in the world of Neo McDavid. Many will challenge him, few will survive. 

4) WALKING DEADMONTON

This entry is fantastic because it shows the Oilers banding together to fend off McDavid haters… or zombies. Either way. The thing that concerns me is that Nuge is wielding a machete without proper supervision or eye protection. I’m not sure how realistic it would be to hand a 12 year-old Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and expect him not to hurt himself, but I fully support his willingness to battle for his teammates. Extra points has to go to zombie MacTavish in the background which made me genuinely laugh out loud. 

5) THE SHARPSHOOTER

When I was a kid I was a huge wrestling fan, and I wanted nothing more than to be one of the kids that received Brett Hart’s sunglasses. Now, decades later, I find myself wishing for Connor McDavid to take off HIS sunglasses and put them on me in the same way Brett Hart did to fans many years earlier. Would I also let McDavid throw me in the sharp shooter just for fun? Who could say no to that!?

6) THE PRICE IS WRONG

I love this entry because it probably portrays Pete Chiarelli’s inner thoughts when the Boston Bruins sent Dougie Hamilton to Calgary for a lesser trade package than what he offered. This entry nails it at every level. The only disturbing part about it is that putting Peter Chiarelli’s head on Bob Barker’s body gives him the arms of a 70 year old man and it weirds me out. Apart from that – aces.
