With Stuart Skinner winning the WHL Championship on Sunday night and signing his entry-level contract with the Edmonton Oilers yesterday, it seemed fitting that the WHL would put together a highlight pack for the goaltender.
When watching the video, one thing that stands out right away is Skinner’s ability to follow the puck without looking overly busy in the net. Naturally, this is only a snippet of what his year looked like, but we can still see a goaltender that squares himself up to the puck, tracks well, and does not give up a whole lot of rebounds for second chances. Even when he does get caught out of position, Skinner has the athleticism to make saves that he probably shouldn’t have any business making, and that type of second effort will surely be appreciated by Oilers fans.
While we don’t know how far away Skinner will be from dawning the blue and orange, Oilers fans now have another quality goaltending prospect to follow as he makes the jump to professional hockey.
