Welcome to Oilersnation’s top five fights of the year, where we take a look at the highest-rated Edmonton Oilers fights of the year, courtesy of our friends at Hockey Fights.
The Oilers’ fourth-highest-rated fight of the year came this season, when Josh Brown fought Zack MacEwen on November 19th, 2024, in just his second game with the Oilers.
Brown had been recalled days earlier, stepping into the lineup after Darnell Nurse was injured on a hit by Ryan Reaves, and it didn’t take long for Brown to show off his fighting ability.
The Oilers had a 1-0 lead in their game against the Ottawa Senators that night, after Evan Bouchard gave them an early lead. MacEwen, a tough guy in his own right, was clearly eager to drop the mitts, asking Brown to go.
Right off a faceoff in the Oilers zone, the two went at it, and MacEwen got the jump on Brown, throwing a quick right hand. But Brown responded with a few punches of his own, as both stood tall throwing heavy rights.
Brown was calm as he threw his blows, eating as many as he threw, in what was a fairly even fight. The Oilers blue liner, however, would get the takedown, using MacEwen’s momentum to take him down to the ice, before having to head to the Oilers locker room for some repairs.
Hockey Fights viewers felt it was a fairly even tilt, with Brown getting a 39 percent to 38 percent edge over MacEwen, while 23 percent of the voters felt it was a draw.
