It’s Tom Wilson’s world, and we’re just living in it.
While the entire hockey world has been in awe of Connor McDavid and Macklin Celebrini in these early games at the Olympics, it was Wilson who received all the attention after getting into a fight with France’s Pierre Crinon.
The moment the gloves were dropped, fans shared their takes on the situation online, anticipating that no fighting would occur at the Winter Games due to strict rules.
Every NHL team wishes they had a Tom Wilson type on their roster. Big boi hockey in the playoffs and the Olympics. – Grady Sas via X
Tom Wilson is the most wild player I’ve ever seen. I’ve been watching hockey my whole life. Even 20 + years ago, guys didn’t have the balls to fight at the Olympics. He’s f****g crazy lmao. – Realwilliam59 via X
Also first time in my life I cheered for Tom Wilson during a fight. – beeboplinski via X

Only Tom Wilson would get a Gordie Howe hatty at the Olympics 😂😂😂 – ZJBeatdown via X
Buddy wanted nothing to do with Tom tho. Used that height advantage to just throw him. – Hunter Dale via Facebook
If anyone from Team Canada would do that, it would be Wilson. That is partly why they put him on the team, but he can score too. Not saying the other guy deserved it. Ya he did!!. Only wish it was on a Tkachuk brother… – Brian J Pettigrew
Wilson forgot it was the olympics lol gloves came off quick. – canadiancardboardconnoisseur via Instagram
Pulled of a Gordie Howe at the Olympics that’s the stuff of legends. – Liza101 via Instagram
The beauty of these games has been that fans have developed a greater appreciation for players like Wilson, who often get a harsh reputation in the NHL. He’s the type of player you hate to play against, but wish was on your team, and now all of Canada gets to experience what it’s like to be a fan of the Washington Capitals.
And the best part about it all: Tom Wilson won’t be suspended for the scuffle and will be available for Canada in the Quarter-Final.
Huge. Would have been ridiculous if IIHF gave anything for a glorified wrestling match. – Oilers Daily via X
first time in my life i have ever smiled at the sentence “no further discipline for tom wilson” – @Crosmilton via X
News got out that Wilson got cleared for the QF In that case, good for him lmao agreed the French guy got what he deserved. –

If Tom Wilson’s only purpose on this team is ultimately to keep the Tkachuk deviants off of Celebrini in a gold medal game, I’m 100% on board. – @LeftCoastLeafs via X
Hardly call that a fight, would be way more surprising if they both got a game for that. – rk.sk.306 via Instagram
Happy he isn’t suspended sticking up for a teammate a lot of respect for that with the dirty hit on McKinnon, French guy apologized after the hit but you still chicken winged him right in the chin happy McKinnon was able to get up after that. – caleyfitzpatrick via Instagram
Who would’ve thought a 10-2 blowout would have so much to talk about? But as is often the case when Tom Wilson drops the gloves, McDavid, Crosby, and Macklin Celebrini are awarded a penalty shot.
It hasn’t been determined yet who Canada will play in the quarterfinal, but with the preliminaries over, they’ve earned a few days off, as the quarterfinal games are scheduled for this Wednesday.
