It’s been a while since the Oilers drafted a player from the Erie Otters.

However, the last time they picked a player from one of America’s Ontario Hockey League teams, it turned out pretty well.
The Edmonton Oilers have a few centremen waiting on the farm. The most notable of which is Dylan Holloway, who plays both left-wing and centre, and posted three goals and nine points in 51 NHL games last season.
Right-shot centre Xavier Bourgault was selected with the 22nd overall pick in the 2021 draft, and had 13 goals and 34 points in 62 American Hockey League games in 2022-23. Moreover, 2019 second-round pick Raphael Lavoie had a successful season in the American Hockey League, scoring a career-high 25 goals and 45 points in 61 games.
They also recently traded their fifth-round pick for centre man Jayden Grubbe, who had 67 points in 64 games for the Red Deer Rebels last season. Furthermore, Tyler Tullio, a 21-year-old forward who had 13 goals and 26 points in 63 games has some experience playing centre as well.
With that being said, the cupboards for the centre position are rather full for the Oilers. However, you can never have too many centres, so let’s look at the Erie Otters’ Carey Terrance.

Born in Akwesasne, New York, Terrance has spent the last two seasons playing for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League. During the 2021-22 season, the then 16-year-old scored 10 goals and added 24 points in his 62 games, The 2022-23 season was an improvement on his rookie season, scoring 30 goals and finishing the season with 47 points in 67 games.
Despite only being 17 for the entirety of the season, Terrance led the very bad Erie Otters in scoring, edging out 16-year-old Malcolm Spence, who had 16 goals and 42 points in 64 games. Moreover, he earned a letter only two seasons into his junior career, showing that he was already a leader at such a young age.
Terrance ranks anywhere from the 54th-best draft prospect (McKeen’s Hockey) to the 128th-best draft prospect (Eliteprospects). Furthermore, he ranks as the 38th best North American skating draft prospect according to the NHL Central Scouting.
The name of the game for Terrance is his speed. He has a great first step which allows him to beat defenders. He can also maintain possession of the puck going top speed, which isn’t always the case for fast players. Terrance also has no issues going to the dirty areas of the ice. Not only does he have a high motor which allows him to compete, but he also has no issues crashing the net and causing havoc in front of it. 
All in all, there’s a lot to like about the Erie Otter centre, and he may end up being a steal in the 2023 draft.

It’s been a while since the Oilers drafted a player from the Erie Otters.
