Tyler Ennis is taking his talents to Ottawa.
The former Oilers forward inked a professional tryout with the Senators, Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch reported Sunday.
Ennis, 31, joined the Oilers in a Feb. 2020 deal with Ottawa that saw Edmonton ship back a 2021 5th round pick used to select Gage Alexander.
He appeared in nine regular-season games in 2019-20 scoring two goals and four points but broke his leg in a playoff game against Chicago.
This past year, Ennis inked a one-year, $1-million deal and appeared in 30 games scoring three goals and nine points. As I wrote about in August, I felt Ennis was underutilized with the Oilers. At 5×5 he scored the 5th most points per hour (1.54) among all Oilers forwards and was still his lowest since 2016-17.
I also noted that he’s a player the Oilers could consider on a cheap deal and I’m a bit surprised they didn’t, at the very least, offer him a pro tryout to attend camp that kicks off Wednesday.
Edmonton has, however, brought in forward Colton Sceviour for a professional tryout.
