Happy Wednesday, Internet friends, and welcome to yet another chapter of your ol’ pal Baggedmilk’s adventures in radio. As I do every week, I jumped on the air with the boys on The Locker Room for a quick segment to talk about the Oilers while also offering my takes on anything else that’s going on in the world.
To kick off this week’s segment, we got started with a look at Nathan MacKinnon’s new contract, and specifically how his new deal sees him making $100K more than Connor McDavid. Was this a purposeful choice? Coincidence? Allegedly in my opinion, the answer is obvious. From there we looked at the Oilers’ decision to bring Jake Virtanen in on a PTO and whether the organization made the right call to bring in the former Canucks despite the noise surrounding the decision. Personally, I don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze here but I’m also not involved in any of the decision making. Sticking with the Oilers, we dove into the Young Stars Tournament that happened in Penticton over the weekend, and how this crop of prospects may not necessarily be as “sexy” as it was when the first overall picks were rolling through but are ultimately just as important. That’s why I think a guy like Dylan Holloway — he was an absolute stud at this tourney — has such a good shot of cracking the roster and actually making an impact. Lastly, we wrapped up this week’s appearance with a tribute to Ryan Smyth as both he and Lee Fogolin were named as the first two inductees into the Oilers’ ring of honour/Hall of Fame.
