For the ninth time this season, the Edmonton Oilers are on a two-game winning streak.
Not once have they managed to stretch one of these streaks to three games during the 2025-26 season, but this looks like a prime opportunity.
The Oilers were dominant in both legs of last weekend’s back-to-back, first winning by a score of 6-0 over the miserable Canucks in Vancouver before coming home and pounding the St. Louis Blues 5-0 in Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ 1,000th NHL game.
Fittingly, it was Nugent-Hopkins who scored the game-winning goal on his special night. Just five minutes into the first period, Brayden Schenn took a slashing penalty, and Edmonton capitalized on the man advantage.
Andrew Mangiapane and Zach Hyman scored later in the first frame to give Edmonton a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Hyman scored again in the second, and Vasily Podkolzin added another insurance marker in the third.
Goaltender Connor Ingram turned aside all 27 shots he faced for his first shutout as a member of the Oilers.
The two wins have the Oilers within striking distance of the Vegas Golden Knights for the top spot in the Pacific Division. Edmonton is two points back of Vegas, though the Golden Knights have three games in hand on the Oilers.

What they said…

Connor Ingram on the Oilers winning Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ 1,000th NHL game…
“I think it went as well as a night like tonight can go. It’s a big day for Nuge. It’s a big day for the organization, and everything seems to be clicking. Playing your 1,000th game and you score the game-winner, it doesn’t get much better than that. It’s something I’ll talk about for a long time, and it was just an honour to be a part of it.”
Zach Hyman on how much Nugent-Hopkins means to the Oilers…
“It’s pretty special to be a part of a group that cares about milestones and important days. This is a special day, and you try to make it as special as possible because Nuge means so much to all of us. He’s the ultimate teammate, ultimate friend, and you want to make this day special for him, and one that he’ll never forget because he’s earned it.”
“It’s not easy playing a thousand games. First Oiler to ever play 1,000 consecutive is pretty remarkable given the history of this organization, the amount of unbelievable Hall of Fame players that have come through, and I think you just see how much the fans love him.”
“In my mind, he might be the most beloved Oiler of all time. It’s pretty special to commit to this city for pretty much your entire career. I think he’s here for life, and you can ask him that, but it seems like it. A commitment to this city, and you can see the commitment back. They just truly love him, and what’s not to love?”
Nugent-Hopkins on how the Oilers made his milestone night special…
“Obviously, special and memorable. What the guys put together and the way they made this night a special night for myself, my family, and friends was incredible, and something that I’ll never forget. The fans out there are always electric, and that stuff doesn’t go unnoticed. So just a lot of appreciation tonight.”
St. Louis captain Brayden Schenn on the Blues allowing five goals…
“We didn’t play good enough or hard enough in front of [Jordan Binnington]. The reality is that we’re leaving him hanging out to dry this year. When you give up too many goals and don’t score enough, it’s a combo, obviously, that you don’t want. We just weren’t physical tonight and didn’t play hard enough in front of [Binnington].”
“I took a penalty and gave the best power play in the league an opportunity to get ahead, which they did.”

Up next…

Sunday’s game against the Blues was the first match of an eight-game homestand for the Oilers. This week, Edmonton will host the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, and the Washington Capitals on Saturday.
