Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane has been fined $5,000 by the NHL for kneeing, the maximum allowable under the CBA.
The incident happened early in the second period Thursday night against the LA Kings. At the 4:23 mark, Kane took a healthy run at Kings rearguard Sean Durzi, clipping him with his knee.
Kane was issued a two-minute penalty for kneeing on the play. He had a solid night for the Oilers once again firing three shots on goal and adding a second assist on Evan Bouchard’s game-winning goal.
He’s appeared in 33 games this year for the Oilers scoring 16 goals and 29 points. The start to his time in Edmonton has been tremendous. He’s been a dynamic edition to the Oilers’ top-six this year.
With him on the ice at 5×5, the Oilers have controlled 51.15 percent of the shot attempts, 61.36 of the goals scored and 50.38 percent of the expected goal share.
In all situations, his 2.69 points per hour is the highest mark of his career and ranks third on the Oilers behind Leon Draisaitl (3.77) and Connor McDavid (4.12). On top of that, his 9.82 shots per hour are second on the club.
