I’d just let it accrue and then use it closer to the deadline.

There’s no wrong answer, really. I like the idea of entering the season with cap space, because it gives the team a chance to accrue some real money ahead of the deadline. The Oilers have $4.725 million and change in cap space, according to PuckPedia, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they were active in the PTO market to use a few million to add some more competition.

Not much. He would like to lower the five bell errors, but he had a great season so I wouldn’t change much in how he plays/sees the game.

There’s no need to reinvent the wheel here. Bouchard will continue to do what he does best in being a strong puck-moving, offensive defenceman. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him continue to kill penalties, and there’s no denying he’ll be asked to clean up his defensive game, too.

I imagine the defensive zone play and choices will get a few video sessions lol. I think Bouchard is a live-by-the-sword kind of player, and he’s going to make some big gamble mistakes that Babcock will have to live with. You don’t put up points like Bouchard without having the puck on your stick a lot.

Be consistent. He doesn’t need to be elite, just reliable and not have glaringly bad games too often.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: he’s going to need to find a way to string games together.

Consistency. That’s all. One way or the other, just make it consistent.

He is what he is don’t expect him to be something different. His salary is less than his previous contract so if he scores 22-28 points he will be fine.

His contract is justifiable even with the offence he’s provided in recent years. If the Oilers can find 20-25 points out of him, they’ll be happy.

He makes less than Vinny Desharnais. What else do you want?

I see Stastney and Regula as odd men out unless there is an injury in camp.

That’s the question everyone is asking, right? Logically, Spencer Stastney is the odd man out of the group. Bouchard, Ekholm, Walman, Murphy, and Shea are all secured, but it’s the Mukhamadullin, Emberson, Stastney group where the questions lie. They just acquired Mukhamadullin in the Nurse trade, so he’s not going anywhere, which really leaves it down to Emberson and Stastney. Emberson has an inside track as a right-shot defenceman, who has been here for a few years and took a big step forward. Now the question is if the team feels they can get Stastney through waivers, or if they need to trade him.

I bet Stastney hits waivers and they hope he clears. I’m always wrong. What do I know?
