Quinn Hutson is set to make his season debut Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins, slotting in on the Oilers’ fourth line.
In a game that doesn’t lack storylines, there’s also the emergence of Quinn Hutson’s game with the Bakersfield Condors.  He is set to play on the right wing after being called up on Monday, centred by Curtis Lazar, and flanked by Trent Frederic.
Hutson has been on fire. With 16 goals, 12 assists, and 28 points in 24 games, it’s this recent heater that is drawing tons of attention.
In his last seven games dating back to Nov. 29, Hutson accumulated eight goals, 4 assists, and 12 points. He’s done his most damage this season on the power play, with eight goals this year on the man advantage.
Head coach Kris Knoblauch said that due to the injuries at forward and the salary cap, this was a good time to call up a player like Hutson and give them an opportunity.
“Hutson’s probably, or is the one that’s really standing out with his goal scoring and his two way play, “said Knoblauch. “And you look at our team right now, we could probably use a little more secondary scoring – that’s not the expectation for him to come in and score right away, that’s not it.”
“But maybe you can chip in once in a while. We think he’s a really good hockey player, and we’re rewarding him for playing as well as he is down in Bako.”
Hutson played two games with the Edmonton Oilers at the end of last season, fresh off being signed out of Boston University following his collegiate career finishing.
He sits third in the AHL in goals and points.

Lineup

Besides Tristan Jarry starting in place of Calvin Pickard, Hutson is the one expected lineup change from Sunday’s loss in Montreal, in for David Tomášek.
Connor McDavid will centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman. Leon Draisaitl will centre Vasily Podkolzin and Matt Savoie. The third line will feature Andrew Mangiapane and Mattias Janmark bracketing Adam Henrique.
Connor Clattenburg, Jack Roslovic, and Kasperi Kapanen remain on the injured reserve upfront. Jake Walman has been out since Nov. 20 against Tampa Bay.
Hutson is in the last year of his two-year contract, making $875,000. In his last year at Boston University, he scored 23 goals, 27 assists for 50 points, ninth most in the nation.
His call-up will likely be overshadowed tonight. Tristan Jarry, Stuart Skinner, and Brett Kulak are playing against their former teams, Leon Draisaitl is looking to score his 1000th point, Sidney Crosby is two points behind Mario Lemieux for the franchise lead, and the Pens are winless in four tries on their homestand.
