<p>The Edmonton Oilers finished off the 2022-23 regular season on a high note with a 5-2 win over the San Jose Sharks and they put their name into the record books in the process.  </p>
<p>The Oilers converted on one of three power play opportunities against the Sharks in their win on Thursday, so they ultimately finished the season with a power play that scored 88 goals on 272 opportunities. The 32.4 percent success rate that the Oilers had this season edges out <a href="https://www.nhl.com/stats/teams?aggregate=0&amp;reportType=season&amp;seasonFrom=19291930&amp;seasonTo=20222023&amp;gameType=2&amp;filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&amp;sort=powerPlayPct&amp;page=0&amp;pageSize=50">the previous high of 31.9 percent held by the 1977-78 Montreal Canadiens</a>.</p>
<p>Leon Draisaitl&#8217;s power play goal against the Sharks on Thursday also set a franchise record for most power play goals in a single season. The 1987-88 team and the 2005-06 team both scored 88 goals on the power play and this year&#8217;s team scored 89.</p>
