It was a milestone night for a former Edmonton Oilers forward.
Evander Kane, 34, dressed in the 1,000th game of his NHL career, becoming the 420th player to do so. He’ll hit the mark playing for his hometown Vancouver Canucks as they pay a visit to the Vegas Golden Knights.
161 of Kane’s games came with the Oilers between 2021-25, across three regular seasons and four playoff runs. He joined the team as a free agent in Jan. 2022 and entered Edmonton’s top-six mix for the stretch run, producing strong results. He racked up 22 goals and 39 points in 43 games, adding a playoff-leading 13 goals and 17 points in 15 games.
His 2022-23 season was shortened due to a gruesome wrist injury, and he wasn’t quite the same playoff performer for the Oilers afterwards. Kane totalled 62 goals and 111 points across his regular season games, adding another 26 markers and 42 points in 68 playoff games.
The Oilers traded Kane to the Canucks last summer in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2025 draft, used to select David Lewandowski. Kane, meanwhile, has struggled to produce much offence for the league-worst Canucks, scoring 13 goals and 31 points.

Kane played 14:42 in ice time last night against the Golden Knights, scoring the game-opening goal while taking five shots on goal. He became the 11th player from the 2009 NHL draft class to hit the mark, scoring the fourth most-goals among them, while also becoming the second player in Canucks history to score in his 1,000th game, joining Markus Naslund.
“It was nice to have the support of all the guys, they were excited for me,” said Kane after the game. “Getting the first goal of the game was a little cherry on top.
“It’s nice to be able to have a nice moment in that milestone game.”
Kane is a pending unrestricted free agent in the final year of a four-year, $5.125 million contract.
