The Edmonton Oilers have fallen to 2-8-1 on the season following a 6-2 loss to the Canucks in Vancouver. Below are the highlights from the game.

The Oilers came flying out of the gates and peppered the Canucks with 10 shots in the first five minutes of play. Canucks forward Dakota Joshua took a holding penalty and Mattias Ekholm capitalized on the man advantage to make the score 1-0.
The Canucks tied the game at 1-1 later in the first period with their third shot on goal. The Oilers had 19 shots on goal in just over 10 minutes of play but the Canucks found the equalizer.
Vancouver’s fourth shot of the game led to their second goal and a 2-1 lead. Pius Suter got the puck in the high slot and threw a wrist shot that went through Stuart Skinner’s five-hole and into the back of the net.
A few minutes later, Darnell Nurse went to the penalty box for cross-checking and the Canucks added to their lead on the ensuing power play. J.T. Miller fired a shot from the point, Vancouver’s seventh of the game, and Brock Boeser buried the rebound to give the Canucks a 3-1 lead.
The Oilers brought themselves back to within one goal in the second period when they made the score 3-2 on their 25th shot on goal. Dyan Holloway bumped into goaltender Thatcher Demko behind the net and Leon Draisaitl buried the puck into an open net.
The Canucks extended their lead again just over three minutes later. The Oilers won a faceoff in Vancouver’s zone but the Canucks managed to bust up ice on a two-on-one. Skinner made the initial save but the third forward following the play, Nils Hoglander, came in untouched and buried a rebound.
The Oilers appeared to score again to bring the score to 4-3 but the goal was ultimately called back because it was deemed that Warren Foegele kicked the puck into the net.
Things started to get chippy in the latter part of the second period. J.T. Miller gave Connor McDavid a bump in front of Vancouver’s net and Zach Hyman came in and dropped the gloves.
Frustration really started to boil over for the Oilers in the third period. Skinner made a stop on Pius Suter and McDavid pushed him to the ice after the shot. A scrum ensued along the boards and both McDavid and Draisaitl were penalized.
The Canucks added to their lead on the ensuing power play. J.T. Miller wired a shot from the point that went off of the post and in. You have to use slow motion to see the puck cross the line.
Later in the third period, Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft was ejected from the game for shouting at the referees about a messed call in front of the net. The jawing from Edmonton’s bench started well before that, of course.
The Canucks put a cherry on top of their lopsided win with a power-play goal late in the game. Brock Boeser finished off a tic-tac-toe play and made the score 6-2 when he fired the puck into Edmonton’s gaping net.
