The Hurricanes opened the scoring just under 10 minutes into the first period. Carolina had started to ramp up the pressure in Edmonton’s zone and Jesper Fast was able to sneak in behind their defencemen and knock in a loose puck from the crease.
Carolina extended their lead to 2-0 on the very next shift. Jack Drury and Michael Bunting went up the ice on a two-on-one and passed the puck back and forth before Drury managed to squeeze it just inside the post.

The Hurricanes continued the pressure and the floodgates opened up. Philip Broberg and Ryan McLeod weren’t able to break the puck out from behind Edmonton’s net and Teuvo Teravainen was on the doorstep to bury the mistake.
