On Tuesday evening, the Oilers took on the Minnesota Wild and fell 7-4 while their record dropped to 1-4-1. They had multiple leads throughout the game but imploded and allowed five goals during the third period.

Warren Foegele’s two-goal performance:

There weren’t a lot of positives from this game, but one of these bright spots was Warren Foegele’s performance. His first goal came on a broken play when the puck bounced to him in the slot, while the second game was on a rush play.

Evander Kane with a Gordie Howe Hat Trick:

After not-so-subtly calling out coach Jay Woodcroft during the second intermission of Saturday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets, Kane had by far his best showing of the season Tuesday.

He got into his second fight in as many games, assisted on Edmonton’s first goal, and potted his first goal to make it a 5-4 game at one point. When Kane is engaged, the Oilers are significantly better, so hopefully, he can keep this up.

Leon Draisaitl had another multi-point game:

The German-born player leads the team in points, as he has four goals and 11 points in Edmonton’s six games so far this season. He didn’t score on Tuesday, but he definitely impacted the game with two assists.

Edmonton forgets how to count:

Minnesota may not have scored on any of their three power plays, but how do you take three too many men penalties in the same game?!

The team needs to clean up their act, and fast.

Losing Connor McDavid has hurt the power play:

On Tuesday, Edmonton went one-for-five on the power play, with that goal coming late in the third. They had four power play opportunities in the first period and failed to capitalize on any of them.

When a team is in the box for nearly half the period, it’s imperative that you diminish any hope for them, but Edmonton just failed to do that.

Next up…

Edmonton resumes action on Thursday, as they’ll take on the New York Rangers at home at 7:00 PM MDT. They need to string a few wins together before the season starts to spiral. Things are getting ugly in a hurry.
