Mikko Koskinen will be back in net on Saturday night, it appears.

According to Mark Spector, Stuart Skinner won’t be activated from COVID-19 protocol in time for tomorrow’s game against the Calgary Flames and Koskinen is likely to be the starter.

Skinner was placed in protocol back on Monday, so there was some optimism that he might be ready to return by the time the weekend rolled around. Players need to provide two negative tests more than 24 hours apart in order to be cleared to exit protocol and return to their respective teams.

Beyond Skinner, Mike Smith is also dealing with a thumb injury and he isn’t expected to be ready until next week. That leaves the Oilers with Koskinen or rookie Ilya Konovalov as their goaltending options for Saturday night’s bout at home against the Flames.

Koskinen has had a very rough time lately. His last win was all the way back on December 1 when he stopped 32 of 34 shots in a victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Since then, Koskinen has lost seven consecutive starts while posting an .855 save percentage.
