The Edmonton Oilers of 1983 were a powerhouse and the best was yet to come. A young, incredibly talented team that had the likes of many future Hall of Famers took the league by storm.

And after cruising to a 47-21-12 record in the regular season, the Oilers beat the Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames in the first two rounds of the playoffs. In their third series, Edmonton squared up against the Chicago Blackhawks, who much like the other two series, would make quick work of.

Today, in 1983, the Oilers and Blackhawks squared off in game two at the Northlands Coliseum. There, the Oilers became the third team in NHL history to score two hat tricks in a game — all in thanks to a four goal night from Glenn Anderson and another three from Mark Messier.

Edmonton won the game singlehandedly outscoring the visiting Blackhawks 8-2. By the end of the four-game series, Wayne Gretzky had put up 12 points, Anderson and Jari Kurri had eight a piece, while Mark Messer and Ken Linseman each put up six points.

Edmonton went on to face the New York Islanders who swept the Oilers in four games.
