Columbus Blue Jackets captain Boone Jenner will be sidelined for six weeks due to a fractured jaw sustained in Friday night’s game against the St. Louis Blues.

The injury occurred when Jenner was struck in the face by a deflected shot from his teammate, Ivan Provorov, while positioned in front of St. Louis netminder Joel Hofer. Despite falling to the ice on impact, Jenner quickly headed to the dressing room and did not return to the game after leaving at the 12:09 mark of the second period.

Before his exit, Jenner had contributed two shots and played 12:16 of ice time, contributing to the Blue Jackets 5-2 victory over the Blues.

Blue Jackets head coach Pascal Vincent said that Jenner would be out for quite some time during his post-game interview. The club officially announced the injury on Saturday morning via Twitter, specifying a six-week recovery period that places Jenner’s return in the new year.

Jenner, the top scorer for the Blue Jackets this season, has posted 13 goals and 18 points throughout 29 games. He also leads the club’s forwards in ice time, with an average of 19:18 per game. Alexander Texier stepped in for Jenner after his departure, becoming one of the options considered to fill the void as the number one centre position during Jenner’s absence.

With the 5-2 win on Friday, the Blue Jackets improved their record to 9-15-5 and sit eighth in the Metropolitan Division.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Saturday that goaltender Joseph Woll will be sidelined on a week-to-week basis due to a high ankle sprain, the club disclosed.

The injury occurred during Thursday’s game against the Ottawa Senators when Woll required assistance leaving the ice after making a Dave against Senators forward Rourke Chartier. The 25-year-old netminder, however, appeared to resist putting weight on his left leg. Before removing himself from the game, Woll made 29 saves, including a handful of game-saving stops.

As a relief effort, goaltender Martin Jones, who had just been recalled from the Toronto Marlies, stepped into the crease to help the Maple Leafs secure a 4-3 victory over the Senators, taking on nine saves for a .900 save percentage.

“It’s unfortunate, right?” Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said after the game.

“He’s been playing so well, and he’s building such great momentum here on his season and his career. It’s a setback here. Now he’s going to miss time, for sure. We’ll determine the extent of it once we get home. But, obviously, he’s the big reason why we get two points here tonight.”

Woll has been outstanding for the Leafs, with Thursday night’s contest marking the fifth consecutive start for the goaltender, who has posted a 8-5-1 record in 15 games with a .916 save percentage and 2.80 goals against average.

With Woll out, the responsibility is expected to fall onto Ilya Samsonov to take over as the team’s starting netminder after recovering from an illness. However, there are concerns surrounding Samsonov’s performance as he holds a .878 save percentage and a 4-1-3 record in his 10 appearances this season.

The Maple Leafs are 13-6-4 with 30 points throughout 23 games this season, slotting them into fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
