The Seattle Kraken have named a former Edmonton Oiler as their second captain in franchise history.
On Tuesday, the Kraken announced that Jordan Eberle will be the second captain in franchise history, as they haven’t had one since Mark Giordano was traded before the 2022 trade deadline.

Eberle has been with the Kraken since they debuted in 2021-22, scoring 21 goals and 44 points in 79 games that season. The following season, Eberle scored 20 goals and 64 points, his highest total since the 2014-15 season with the Oilers. Moreover, the Kraken made their first-ever postseason appearances, making it to Game 7 of the second round before being ousted. In that run, Eberle scored six goals and 11 points in 14 games.
Last season, Eberle scored 17 goals and 44 points in 78 games and signed an extension mid-season as his name was floating around in trade rumours. With that being said, it wouldn’t have been the first time the 2008 first-round pick had been traded, as Edmonton shipped him to the New York Islanders after the end of the 2016-17 season.
Eberle spent four seasons with the Islanders, scoring 13 goals and 34 points in 49 postseason games before the Kraken selected him in the expansion draft.
Boone Jenner undergoes shoulder surgery
Speaking of captains, the Columbus Blue Jackets will be without their captain Boone Jenner. On Wednesday, he underwent successful shoulder surgery and will begin rehab soon, but it’s unclear when he’ll return, with the Blue Jackets hoping it’ll be before the end of the season.

The Jackets selected the 31-year-old in the 2011 draft with their second-round pick. He has spent his entire career with the franchise, scoring a career-high 30 goals and 49 points in 82 games with the team during the 2015-16 season.
Jenner has improved the past three seasons, becoming a consistent 20-goal scored. In 2021-22, he scored 23 goals and 44 points in 59 games, following up the next season with 26 goals and 45 points in 68 games. Last season, he scored 22 goals and 35 points in 58 games as the Blue Jackets missed the postseason for the fourth consecutive season.

Hurricane Milton touched down in the Tampa region late Wednesday evening, causing extensive damage in the area, including destroying Tropicana Fields roof, home to the Tampa Bay Rays. More importantly, though, Milton has caused numerous fatalities and impacted countless people’s lives.
This isn’t the first game that has been postponed for the Lightning, as a preseason game against the Nashville Predators had to be postponed due to Hurricane Helene towards the end of last month.
