McDavid goes coast-to-coast against Utah: Best Oilers goals of 2025-26

This summer, Oilersnation will recap the top five Edmonton Oilers goals, the top five fights, and the top five overall moments from the up-and-down 2025-26 season.

Connor McDavid is a once-in-a-lifetime type of player, but I assume you know that if you’re reading this. He’s scored countless highlight-reel goals in his 11 seasons in the National Hockey League, and the 2025-26 season is no different.

It was a pretty disappointing season for the Edmonton Oilers all things considered, as they failed to get out of the first round for the first time since the 2021 postseason. That said, McDavid’s goal against the Utah Mammoth late in the season ranks as our second-best goal of the Oilers’ 2025-26 season.

McDavid goes coast to coast

There was still a lot to play for entering April 7th’s game against the Mammoth. At the time, the Oilers held on to the Pacific Division lead, but were tied in points with the Anaheim Ducks and one ahead of the Vegas Golden Knights. They were even in danger of missing the postseason, as they were clear of the Nashville Predators by five points with five games left.

To make matters worse, the Oilers were without Leon Draisaitl, meaning their power play was in a slump. Following Leon Draisaitl’s departure on March 15th, the Oilers scored just two power play goals on 24 attempts, a horrific 8.33 per cent power play percentage.

They needed a power play goal, even Louie DeBrusk and Jack Michaels mentioned it as the play was developing. Seconds later, they finally got a power play goal.

This zone entry had been done 1,000 times before, McDavid started from his own end to gain speed, Evan Bouchard bumped it back. McDavid made a quick move to his left to get inside the zone, then the magic began.

Once McDavid got the zone, he chipped the puck off the board to get around Mikhail Sergachev. Still with a full head of steam, the next Mammoth defender went to a knee, and McDavid faked going outside before quickly cutting inside toward the netminder. From there, he was able to cut across the goal mouth and guide it in for his 44th of the season.

In the end, it was one of five goals the Oilers scored, eventually falling in overtime. The next game out, McDavid went off for three goals and two assists, his third five-point game of the season, but you can read more about that here.

As good as this goal was, it wasn’t even his best of the season. We’ll look at that one in the next article.
