After a rollercoaster Game 3 that saw the Vegas Golden Knights score the game-winner with 0.4 seconds left on the clock, the Edmonton Oilers will be looking for a rebound in Game 4 on Monday.
There’s a lot at stake in this pivotal game. With a win, the Oilers would put the Golden Knights on the verge of elimination. Another road win for Vegas would put the Golden Knights back in the driver’s seat with home-ice advantage in a best-of-three series.
Let’s get set for Game 4.
Oilers vs. Golden Knights Game 4 Information
- Date: Monday, May 12, 2025
- Start Time: 7:30 PM MT
- Location: Edmonton, Alberta
- Venue: Rogers Arena
- Watch: CBC/SN (Canada), ESPN (USA), Fubo (Stream)
Projected Line Combinations
- Oilers: Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl skated on different lines at Edmonton’s practice on Monday morning. McDavid had Zach Hyman and Corey Perry on his wings while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Mattias Janmark were on Draisaitl’s wings. Evander Kane was with Adam Henrique and Connor Brown on the third line and Trent Frederic was down the middle on the fourth line with Vasily Podkolzin and Kasperi Kapanen on the fourth. It looks like Kapanen will draw into the lineup in favour of Viktor Arvidsson. Troy Stecher was also skating alongside Brett Kulak, suggesting he’ll come into the lineup for Ty Emberson.
- Golden Knights: Mark Stone left Game 3 after playing only six shifts and didn’t return. The captain’s absence led to an increase in playing time for Reilly Smith, who scored two goals in the win for the Golden Knights. Stone is listed as day-to-day and Vegas head coach Bruce Cassidy didn’t rule him out for Game 4 on Monday.
Projected Starting Goaltenders
- Oilers: Calvin Pickard was ruled out for Game 4 by head coach Kris Knoblauch on Sunday, so Stuart Skinner will again get the start for Edmonton on Monday. Skinner dropped Games 1 and 2 in the first round against the Los Angeles Kings and the Oilers went on a six-game winning streak when they switched to Pickard. Skinner allowed four goals on 24 shots against the Golden Knights in Game 3 and has a .817 save percentage through three starts in the playoffs this year.
- Golden Knights: Adin Hill has started in all nine of Vegas’ playoff games thus far and there’s no indication that the team will pivot away from the 2023 Stanley Cup winner. Hill posted a .880 save percentage in the Golden Knights’ first-round series with the Minnesota Wild and he has a .859 save percentage in three games against the Oilers in the second round.
Thoughts and Notes Going into Game 4
- The Oilers went on the road in the first two games of this series against the Golden Knights and stole home-ice advantage. They had a commanding 4-1 victory in Vegas in Game 1, where they completely set the tone and kept their foot on the gas throughout the whole game. The showing in Game 2 wasn’t as impressive, but the Oilers still managed to come out on top in overtime. Game 3 was the weakest showing for Edmonton against the Golden Knights thus far. The Oilers got out to an early lead and gave it away almost immediately. They struggled to generate offence in the later parts of the game and collapsed in the dying seconds of the third period.
- This team knows just as well as anybody that a playoff series can turn very quickly. We all know what just happened with the Los Angeles Kings, who appeared to be in control of their first-round series with the Oilers before losing four consecutive games. Back in 2017, the Oilers won Games 1 and 2 on the road against the Anaheim Ducks and gave home-ice advantage back with losses at home in Games 3 and 4 before losing in seven games. When the Golden Knights beat Edmonton in 2023, their wins in Games 5 and 6 that ultimately clinched the series both saw the Oilers blow leads. The Oilers need to play in Game 4 like they did in Game 1 against Vegas.
- Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were on different lines when the Oilers practiced ahead of Game 4 on Monday, but how long will the dynamic duo remain apart during the game? McDavid and Draisaitl have played 119 minutes together at even strength during the playoffs and they’ve outscored opponents 10-to-6. McDavid has been outscored 4-to-1 over 46 minutes without Draisaitl and Draisaitl doesn’t have a goal in 45 even-strength minutes without McDavid.
