Caggiula is a smaller forward, but plays with tremendous effort and grit. He makes life miserable for the opposition on the forecheck and plays a strong two-way game. He’s having a sensational senior season as a linemate of first round NHL picks Brock Boeser and Nick Schmaltz. It’s unlikely he is the same type of scorer at the next level, but would make an outstanding bottom six energy player.
Caggiula is a tremendous college hockey player, but far from a sure bet at the pro level. He is a smaller player, but gets by with hustle and grit. How will that translate to the pros? His upside is probably as a fringe AHL/NHL player. He’ll have to prove himself in the minor leagues before he gets a serious look at the NHL level, but might be worth an NHL free agent contract when this season is over.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING…
Hearing Drake Caggiula has indeed committed to EDM.

Interesting: Belief is Caggiula was down on EDM at some point during the process. But he loved his visit and was wowed by the new arena.

Caggiula instantly becomes EDM’s top fwd prospect. Slots above Slepyshev in lineup. Ceiling? So hard to judge with udfa’s, but Top 6 ptntl.

Drake Caggiula’s arrival may mean that the Oilers do not qualify 1 of their pending RFA forwards on the farm in Bakersfield

On top of Drake Caggiula don’t be surprised if the Oilers land another NCAA forward shortly to bolster their organizational depth…

Drake Caggiula’s ELC with #Oilers will be for two years, as he’s 22 years old. He scored 62 goals in four seasons with North Dakota.
