According to their official Twitter account, the Edmonton Oilers have signed goaltender Dylan Wells to a three-year, entry-level contract. Wells, who was drafted with the 123rd overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, posted a .916 save percentage for the Peterborough Petes and was a finalist for OHL Goaltender of the Year. He will likely return to the OHL for another season in 2017-18 before joining the professional ranks.

The Oilers now have five goaltenders under contract heading into the 2017-18 season. Cam Talbot will obviously be the starter, while Laurent Brossoit figures to be the backup, though there is some risk he could be chosen by Vegas in the upcoming expansion draft.

Beyond that, Wells joins Nick Ellis, who had an impressive rookie season in Bakersfield, and Shane Starrett, an NCAA free agent signing, as goaltenders with contracts in the system. Eetu Laurikainen wasn’t very good in the ECHL last season and is an RFA this summer, and Jonas Gustavsson, an unrestricted free agent, is sure to not be offered another contract.
