The Edmonton Oilers announced that they have signed 2017 first round pick, Kailer Yamamoto, to a three-year entry level contract.
Yamamoto, who was picked at #22 in June’s NHL Draft, played in 65 games with the Spokane Chiefs last year and put up 99points (42G, 57A). After being drafted, Yamamoto made news after he told Peter Chiarelli that he would come back to haunt the team if they didn’t pick him. Clearly, the plan worked.

Yamamoto looks to spend at least one more year with Spokane in the WHL to work on his skills and has publicly stated that his goal is to lead the league in scoring. Not only does he show guts off the ice but also on the ice. Kailer is the shortest recorded first round pick in the history of the NHL (5’8″, 153lbs), and uses his speed and small size to his advantage on the ice.
I personally can’t wait to see the kid play in the NHL, whether it’s this year, next year, or the year after that. What do you guys think of our first round draft pick? Do you think we’ll be seeing him in the NHL anytime soon?
