The best time of the year is finally right around the corner and the Edmonton Oilers seem to be peaking at the right time!
At this moment, the Edmonton Oilers haven’t officially clinched a playoff spot… but it’s coming! Per Jason Gregor, they are on track to earn home-ice advantage and finish second in their division.
It’s like Christmas in Spring! I mean, it sure feels like it with this weather. Anyways, who would have thought two months ago that we would be in this position? I’m not going to lie, I was a little more than nervous.
However, my favourite part now? Checking in on all of Oilersnation to see where the excitement levels are at.
Here’s what I gathered:
First things first, it came to no surprise that Oilers fans were:
A) Happy with a 4-0 win over Vegas
B) Unhappy that they helped Calgary clinch a playoff spot

#Flames clinched. But the Oilers at this time have a better momentum going into the playoffs. We have a few games to change that. Starting tonight.
Then came overall excitement from the pure fact that the Oilers are SO close to getting the job done…
MASSIVE 4-0 W!!! BACK TO BACK SHUTOUTS BY SMITH!!! OILERS UP TO 94 POINTS! OILERS 10-0-1 AT HOME IN LAST 11, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY BEN IS 6-0-0!!! Enjoy this win Oil Country, I can taste the playoffs & home ice!!! OILERS PLAYOFF MAGIC #: 5 POINTS 44-26-6 #LetsGoOilers
If this is the Oilers team we get in the playoffs, I am not worried.
…followed by the natural stress that comes with being an Oilers fan.
Oilers can clinch a playoff spot Wednesday night. Stop fucking around and sign Jay Woodcroft already.
Ahhhh, and then comes the magic number! The suspense is killing us!
Slight error on my part with this, thanks to those that pointed it out that I overlooked Vancouver. Number is right now 5 points, because Van have a game in hand on Vegas and can leap frog them. If Van loses tonight it goes to 4, if they win stays at 5. Sincere apologies.

However, it seems as though Oilers fans aren’t too worried about their potential match-up in the first round of the playoffs:
With the Golden Knights losing to the Devils tonight, the Oilers will almost certainly play the Kings in the first round of the playoffs. This is the best possible match-up for the Oilers.
I'm not worried about facing Vegas or Los Angeles in the playoffs. Oilers should be able to beat either of them.
Lastly, what’s Clinch-mas season without a little hot take? Thoughts on this one?
Canucks facing the Oilers would be great because Pettersson could show the world he's better than McDavid in the playoffs.
And while we all soak up the season, we have to try very hard not to let reality set in too much.
As much as we love the playoffs, that means hockey is almost done!
It’s like “yay playoffs” but then you think about it more and realize hockey is almost over :/
