Devin Shore made good on his professional tryout.
According to the team’s official Twitter account, the Oilers have inked Shore to a one-year, two-way contract. Shore was also subsequently placed on waivers either to be re-assigned to the AHL or to the Taxi Squad.
Shore, of course, was in camp on a PTO. Signing him gives the team more veteran depth for the fourth-line centre position, which is important given the fact we aren’t sure when Gaetan Haas will be up to game speed.
Originally drafted in the second round of the 2012 draft by the Dallas Stars, Shore has 288 games of NHL experience under his belt. He’s played for the Stars, Anaheim Ducks, and, most recently, the Columbus Blue Jackets. Shore’s best season offensively came in his rookie year in 2016-17 with Dallas when he posted 13 goals and 33 points.
Jason Gregor noted yesterday that he believes that Jujhar Khaira will start the season as the team’s fourth centre and that him being placed on waivers functioned as a wake-up call. If Khaira struggles and Haas doesn’t get back up to shape quickly, Shore will provide the team with a quality veteran option to fill into that role, which is probably better than throwing a rookie in Ryan McLeod into the deep end.
