The Oilers plan to invite 2019 first-round pick Philip Broberg to Phase 3 camp

The NHL is planning to open training camps in the next couple of weeks and it appears as though Philip Broberg will be joining the Oilers in Edmonton.
According to Jim Matheson, the Oilers plan to invite their 2019 first-round pick to join the team in Phase 3. As of right now, the Phase 3 training camps are scheduled to begin on July 10 and then teams will head to their respective hub cities in late-July to begin the playoff tournament.
Obviously, it would be a long-shot for Broberg to play any games for the Oilers in the playoffs this summer. That would certainly be throwing a prospect into the deep end, making his NHL debut in such a difficult situation.
This is really about getting Broberg to Edmonton to be around the team’s coaches and other players given the fact that the Oilers more than likely won’t have an opportunity to bring him over to participate in any kind of summer prospect camp this year.
Broberg, whose entry-level deal features a European Assignment Clause, will remain in Sweden to play another year in the SHL next season.
When it’s all said and done, I wouldn’t expect Broberg to join the Oilers in Phase 4, which involves travelling to a hub city and quarantining for the playoffs. Edmonton’s blueline depth for that situation will likely feature Oscar Klefbom, Darnell Nurse, Caleb Jones, Kris Russell, and William Lagesson on the left side, and Adam Larsson, Ethan Bear, Mike Green, Matt Benning, and possibly Evan Bouchard on the right side.
