Connor McDavid has reached the 300-goal plateau for his NHL career.
The goal, which was McDavid’s 61st of the season, came on Thursday day night as the Edmonton Oilers hosted the Los Angeles Kings…
McDavid reached 300 goals in the 563rd game of his NHL career, putting him among the fastest ever to reach the mark. For the sake of comparison, Alex Ovechkin reached 300 goals in his 473rd game, Steven Stamkos did so in his 550th game, and Sidney Crosby reached the mark in his 622nd game.
This is yet another achievement in a milestone-filled season for McDavid. He passed the 700- and 800-point plateaus for his career earlier this season and he’s already become the first player in the salary cap era to hit 130 points in a single season.
With six games left on Edmonton’s schedule in the regular season, there are quite a few more impressive milestones that are within McDavid’s reach.
There’s a decent chance that he’ll pass Alex Ovechkin’s 65-goal season in 2007-08 for the most goals in a season in the salary cap era and he could possibly become the first player to reach 70 goals in a season since Alexander Mogilny did so in 1992-93. This might be a stretch but McDavid could also become the first player other than Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux to reach 160 points in a single season, which would be an incredible feat given the era that he’s playing in.
