The newest member of the Edmonton Oilers had a big start to his season in Germany.
Dominik Kahun, who inked a one-year deal with the Oilers earlier this month, is currently on a loan playing with Red Bull München (Munich) as the NHL waits to get the 2020-21 season going.
Unlike other European hockey leagues, the 2020-21 DEL season in Germany has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Thursday, a handful of German teams kicked off competitive play with the league’s Magenta Sport Cup. München’s first game came against Adler Mannheim, which is the professional club of the organization that Kahun and Leon Draisaitl played with at the junior level.
A few minutes into the first period, with München on the power-play, Kahun gets the puck at the face-off circle, waits out a defender, and rips a snipe top corner over goaltender Dennis Endras. The patience and the shot are just gorgeous.

Kahun would also add a couple of assists later in the game, picking up three points in München’s 3-2 victory over Mannheim. It’s only been one game, but Kahun currently sits in a tie for the tournament lead in points with three.
