The Edmonton Oilers are just underway in their season, but the ‘bubbling under’ group are on their way and having varying degrees of success. As the weekend dawns, here’s a look at how Oilers’ prospects are doing in 2014-15.

AHL OKLAHOMA CITY BARONS

This is the Oklahoma City opening night roster, with players to watch highlighted (paying homage to Wanye and his groundbreaking ‘paint’ work). This bunch starts the regular season tomorrow night in San Antonio.

CHL

There are several players under the Oilers umbrella playing in the CHL.
  1. Kyle Platzer, Owen Sound (OHL) 7GP, 3-7-10
  2. Jackson Houck, Vancouver (WHL) 6GP, 5-2-7
  3. Marco Roy, Quebec (QMJHL) 5GP, 4-3-7
  4. Greg Chase, Calgary (WHL) 6GP, 0-3-3 
  5. Ben Betker, Everett (WHL) 5GP, 1-2-3
  6. Keven Bouchard Val d’Or (QMJHL) 5GP, 3.97 .875
Platzer is blossoming and Roy is healthy, good news on both fronts. Chase is off to a slow start, but it’s important to remember these are early days. Houck had a fine draft+1 season and is quick out of the blocks for this year too.

NCAA

  1. Aidan Muir, Western Michigan (NCAA) 1GP, 0-1-1
  2. Evan Campbell UMass-Lowell (NCAA) 1GP, 1-0-1
  3. Zach Nagelvoort Michigan (NCAA) 1GP, 4.08 .871
  4. Tyler Vesel, Nebraska at Omaha (NCAA) 1GP, 0-0-0
  5. Joey Laleggia, Denver (NCAA) first game Oct. 17
  6. John McCarron, Cornell (NCAA) first game Oct. 24
The NCAA prospects are really just getting underway, not much to say about them beyond Nagelvoort looking a little less than stellar in his opener. Miles to go.

    BCJHL

    1. Liam Coughlin, Vernon 8GP, 3-0-3
    Disappointing that he’s in the BCJHL, and his boxcars are not showing progress. Hopefully we see a strong run here leading up to Christmas from this player.

    USHL

    1. William Lagesson, Dubuque 3GP, 0-2-2
    Offense won’t be his calling card (he’s a tough defender with mobility) but these are nice numbers early.

    EUROPE

    1. Anton Slepyshev, Salavat Yulaev (KHL) 15GP, 3-4-7
    2. Antti Tyrvainen, Ilves (SML) 7GP, 3-1-4
    3. Daniil Zharkov Torpedo (KHL) 6GP, 0-0-0
    Slepyshev isn’t getting major minutes, but posted 1-1-2 today and is emerging in the KHL as a useful player in an offensive role this season. Very good news.

    EARLY GOOD ARROWS

      I think Slepyshev leads the way (toughest league) but Platzer and Houck should get some recognition too. Among defensemen, Lagesson is showing up early, and Nagelvoort hasn’t lost his job yet so he’s ahead of Bouchard. I’ll update each weekend as we roll through fall.
