‘You didn’t deserve that’: Oilers fans react to Skinner’s Penguins debut

It was an eventful evening in Pittsburgh as the Edmonton Oilers visited the Penguins on Tuesday, with storylines galore.
Just a few days after being traded, Stuart Skinner faced his former team in his debut for Pittsburgh. Leon Draisaitl also managed to score career point 1,000 on Skinner when just last week, they were sharing the dressing room.
Online, fans had mixed emotions. They were happy for Draisaitl and a little sad for Stuart Skinner, who had to watch his former teammates celebrate right next to him as they scored a pile of goals against him.
Draisaitl’s first point was on a goal by Mark Fayne? Wow that’s almost as impressive as getting 1000 points. – Sausagehobbit via XPoor Stu… All of his friends celebrating Leon’s 1000th point at his expense just days later… That’s tough lol. – Schmiddy the GOAT via XI don’t know if it’s poetry or irony that Draisaitl gets his 1000th point when Kulak’s in the box and Skinner’s in net. – OilerAlert via XDraisaitl’s 1000th point followed immediately by a gorgeous McDavid goal and there is not a dry seat in my house. – Aimeok via XWe’re about 10 mins into this game and it feels like a hate crime toward Stuart Skinner. – Pete Blackburn via X
It was one of those situations where, as a fan of the Oilers, you’re happy to see the team score a bunch of goals, but also sad for Skinner, who has to be on the other end of those goals.
Sad cause of Stu but this needed to happen eventually, glad for the W, Drai’s 1000 points, Davo taking the points lead and Jarry looking solid (I’m not gonna burn him on his stats so far when the defense stops fucking playing in the last period). – Kamil Dharshi via FacebookWell with Connor the first in the league in scoring and Leon with the 1000 points. What a night. It was so exciting. The Oilers deserve to celebrate. Thank you. – Sharon Wolbaum via FacebookThe Oilers have the scouting report on skinner…it’s just shots. – Lucas Hansen via Facebook.I love this for Drai but man, my heart hurts for Skinner. – Amanddarose via InstagramPoor skinner I’m sorry buddy you didn’t deserve that. – Chase_cjparker1 via InstagramSkinner is going to need therapy after this week. – Taco Bella via XThis is hilarious. Skinner in net and has to pretend he doesnt care. Jarry skates the length of the ice to pretend he does care. 2 goalies just faking their reaction to this moment. – Kevin Filipowski via XOilers celebrating Leon’s 1000th point in front of skinner while he still has his oilers mask on. – Meth Bear via X
There’s no way of sugarcoating it; it was an awkward night for Stuart Skinner and a celebratory one for the Edmonton Oilers. The two teams will next face each other on January 22nd in Edmonton, where it’s anticipated that Skinner will receive a warm welcome back to Edmonton.
