It looks like the Oilers are prepared to take a gamble on Evander Kane.
According to Tim Peel, the former NHL referee who now works for Daily Faceoff, Kane is close to signing a contract with the Oilers. Peel says that the contract will be finished tonight. Peel certainly isn’t the standard source you’d generally look to for breaking news, but he was around the league for a long time and would have many sources who could provide this kind of information.
I’m hearing Evander Kane will be signing in the next few hours. Destination: Edmonton Oilers. @EdmontonOilers #nhl #HockeyTwitter

Kane had his contract terminated by the San Jose Sharks over the weekend for breaking COVID-19 protocol two different times. He tried to use a valse vaccination passport before the season, resulting in a 21-game suspension, and then tried to fly to Vancouver while he was in COVID-19 protocol with the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL.
We’ll update this post as more information becomes available.
