My friends, Cam Talbot may not be available for tomorrow’s game because of an upper body injury. This is not a drill.
Talbot tweaked something upper body. If he can’t go we have to recall a goalie. He is getting it checked now,” McLellan.
— Jason Gregor (@JasonGregor) November 29, 2017As far as bad news goes, this has to rank up there with one of the worst issues that can happen to the Oilers at this point. Aside from McDavid, losing Talbot is one of the worst possible injuries possible for this team. Case in point: last night’s game. Had it not been for Talbot, the Oilers would have lost to the funkin’ Arizona Coyotes and that’s a rock bottom that would be hard to beat.
Despite his struggles throughout the early part of this season, Talbot is the rock that keeps this house stable. When he’s not playing well, the team seems to follow suit. When he’s on his game, a place he’s getting back to btw, he can steal a win by himself and that’s the kind of goaltending the Oilers need right now. Actually, they need him. Full stop.
So what happens now?
If Talbot can’t go... Oilers would have to send a non-waiver player down to recall a goalie in time for tomorrow’s game. Slepyshev or Puljujarvi...
— Jason Gregor (@JasonGregor) November 29, 2017If Talbot can’t play tomorrow then the Oilers are going to need to recall Nick Ellis from the Bakersfield Condors. While that would be good news for Ellis, having him or Brossoit between the pipes against the high flying Leafs probably won’t be the greatest roadmap for success. Needless to say, the Oilers (and their fans) will be keeping Talbot in their thoughts and prayers today in the hopes that he can play tomorrow. If not, we could be in for a long night.
Happy day.
