Things got a little scary in last weeks Injury Report. It was the busiest IR we’ve had all season but thankfully we made it out alive. Now the Edmonton Oilers IR is dwindling and we’re getting back to a full roster. What makes this situation even better, is that the Oilers won hard games with injured players in their lineup. They didn’t just crumple into a ball and give up, they persevered. That’s what I like to see!
In minor injury news from the past week, we had Adam Larsson taking a puck to the face which lead to him to get 22 stitches in his lip. He was forced to play the last few games with a full face shield which I can only imagine was the most annoying thing in the world. Below you can see the clip during the Predators game where Larsson got hit. In the same shift, Draisaitl also took a puck to the mouth. It was chaotic for everyone!
We have a couple other updates this week so let’s get into it!

Ty Rattie

Rattie’s back! Well not actually. But he claims that he’s feeling 100% and ready to go. He didn’t get slotted into the lineup last night against Chicago, but I expect to see him with the team on Saturday against Detroit. In case you missed it, Ty Rattie was on the Injury reserve the last couple of weeks with a midsection muscle injury. We don’t know exactly what go injured, or exactly how it happened, but it happened. The Oilers have been doing fairly well without the former Answer in the lineup, and since then, Alex Chiasson has taken the role as The Answer.
Will Ty Rattie claim his title back this weekend in Detroit? Only time will tell. Since Ty hasn’t played in a couple of weeks, Todd said that it’s unlikely he gets slotted back on the top line beside McNuge. He will have to earn his spot back on the top line. I think this is the right move for McLellan to make. Drake Caggiula played excellent alongside McNuge so it’s only fair to reward him with another shot. It’s extremely unfortunate for Rattie to lose his position for getting injured, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

Andrej Sekera

Another week of the injury report means another week of Andrej Sekera on the IR. Reggie has officially become the ‘Andrew Ference’ of the Injury Report. If you forgot, Ference was on the IR for ~500 days or something like that. Sekera is a long way from 500 days, but it sure feels like he’s on his way there. Andre Sekera’s timeline to return from his Achilles injury is still in March, however, I bet if he saw our good friends at the Capilano Rehab Center, they could bump that timeline up.
