<p>The NHL&#8217;s Department of Player Safety has thrown the book at Connor McDavid.</p>

<p>The DoPS announced on Twitter on Saturday morning that McDavid has been suspended for six games for boarding Los Angeles Kings defenceman Mikey Anderson&#8230;</p>

<p>The hit came during the first period of the Oilers and Kings game on Thursday night in Edmonton. Kings goaltender Joonas Korpisalo passed the puck into the corner in Los Angeles&#8217; zone and McDavid threw Anderson into the boards as the two players chased the puck.</p>
<p>McDavid was assessed a two-minute minor for interference while Anderson left the game and didn&#8217;t return.</p>

<p>George Parros, the NHL’s head of Player Safety, said that the league needed to set an example with McDavid in this situation&#8230;</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;This hit was a little bit much and it&#8217;s important that we set an example,&#8221; Parros said. &#8220;We&#8217;d rather not have him on the ice right now if that&#8217;s the type of game he&#8217;s going to play. He already has like 50 more points than the next guy and he&#8217;s also throwing huge hits? Come on. That&#8217;s unnecessary.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>The Oilers beat the Kings by a score of 2-0 on Thursday and leapfrogged them in the standings in the process. Not having McDavid for the remainder of the regular season will be a challenge for the Oilers as they battle for the best record in the Pacific Division.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;The Oilers have been playing very well lately, and we respect that,&#8221; NHL comissioner Gary Bettman said. &#8220;But if these teams want a higher salary cap next season, we&#8217;re going to need more home playoff dates in places like Los Angeles.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
