It appears that the Edmonton Oilers aren’t done looking for young players overseas.
On Monday afternoon, hockey insider Frank Seravalli reported that the Oilers are the favourite to land German right-winger Veit Oswald, who played the 2025-26 season with Deutsche Eishockey Liga’s EHC Red Bull München.
Veit, 21 years old, is a 6’1”, 176 lbs winger born in Landshut, Germany. He has never played for a North American team, instead playing his entire junior and professional career in Germany. Before turning professional, he played for his local team’s youth teams, before making his DEL debut with München in 2022-23. That season saw him pick up three assists in 23 regular season games, while also playing two postseason games en route to München winning the league’s trophy.
Most of Oswald’s 2022-23 season was spent in Germany’s third tier, scoring four goals and nine points in 19 games. He also represented Germany at that year’s World Junior Championship, scoring a goal and two points in five games.
Oswald became a regular for München in 2023-24, scoring 10 goals and 17 points in 38 regular season games, with a goal and two points in nine games. Representing Germany again in the 2024 WJC, Oswald scored three goals and five points in four games, with 27 penalty minutes.
His scoring took a dip in 2024-25, potting just two goals and eight points in 46 regular season games while being held pointless in six games, but he blossomed in 2025-26. In 38 regular season games, Oswald scored 12 goals and 26 points, with two goals and three points in six postseason games.
It’s unclear whether or not the Oilers will land him, but this is what the Oilers have been doing to restock their prospect cupboards over the past year and a half. In recent months, the Oilers have signed Czech defenceman Tomáš Cibulka to an entry-level contract. Shortly after, they signed Owen Michaels to a one-year, entry-level contract that began this season. Michaels helped Western Michigan win their first ever NCAA National Tournament in 2025.
Add in several signings last season like fellow German Josh Samanski, Quinn Hutson, Atro Leppänen, and plenty of others, and this looks like the path forward to maintain the Oilers’ window of contention. They’ve also been linked to Hobey Baker finalist T.J. Hughes in recent times, as are most NHL teams.
We’ll see if anything comes from this report in the next few days.
