Edmonton Oilers forward Joakim Nygard has reinjured a hand injury suffered earlier this year and will undergo surgery.
Nygard, who had been loaned to Farjestad BK of the SHL, suffered a broken hand with the Oilers in January. The injury appears to have flared up again in some way, and he visited a specialist in Gothenberg yesterday.
He will reportedly be operated on next Saturday, and is expected to miss the next four-to-six weeks.
“It is obviously sad to miss matches with Färjestad, but in this case I have to think about myself first,” Nygard told the Farjestad BK website. “I have to get rid of the problem to be able to do myself justice on the ice. As it is now, it no longer works well.”
The injury is an obvious concern for Nygard. The fact this is the second surgery he’s had to have on his hand within an eight-month span is not good news. Let’s hope this surgery does him right.
Nygard was initially injured on Jan. 29 in a game against the Calgary Flames. He had blocked a shot that hit his hand with less than a minute in the first period of that game.
