Oilers will lose rights to two prospects if not signed soon

Two Edmonton Oilers prospects will become unrestricted free agents soon if the organization doesn’t sign them to a contract.
Every season, there is a group of previously drafted talent who become free agents when their team doesn’t offer them an entry-level contract.
PuckPedia released the list of players whose draft rights expire. For the Oilers, it’s Petr Hauser and Albin Sundin.
Hauser was drafted out of Europe in 2022 and will become a Draft-Related Unrestricted Free Agent if not signed to an ELC before June 1, 2026.
The New Jersey Devils originally selected the 22-year-old in the fifth round, 141st overall. His rights were swapped in the three-way deal in March 2025 that brought Trent Frederic and Max Jones to Edmonton.
The Oilers parted with a 2025 second-round pick, a 2026 fourth-round pick, and Maximus Wanner in the trade. Hauser is playing in the Czech League with Vitkovice HC. He scored three goals and 10 points in 41 games this season. In August, he attended the Oilers Development Camp, but otherwise has stayed playing in Europe.
Albin Sundin would be one of just two 20-year-olds to become a Draft-Related Unrestricted Free Agent. He was a sixth-round draft choice in the 2024 draft, 183rd overall, out of Vastra Frolunda Jr.
The offensive defenceman has struggled to produce. In fact, he scored just four goals and nine points in 51 games with Timra IK. Since Sundin was drafted out of Europe at age 20, the Oilers have his rights for a shorter window than other prospects.
Interestingly, the only player drafted in the fourth, fifth, or sixth rounds of the 2024 draft to play NHL games is Oilers’ prospect Connor Clattenburg.
The Oilers also signed a seventh-round pick from 2024 in William Nicholl to an entry-level contract out of the London Knights program, and he is progressing well for such a late draft choice. He finished his season with the Bakersfield Condors, suiting up five times and scoring once.
