Oilers new alternate jersey will be black with ‘Flint Tropics’ motif

The Edmonton Oilers will have a new alternate jersey for the upcoming season, with little tidbits emerging on what the design is.
Each NHL team will have new alternates as part of the league’s “Hometown Remix” jerseys, meant to tie directly to the city, culture, history, and identity of the market.
Sports 1440 morning show host Tom Gazzola revealed on Oilersnation Everyday on Wednesday what to expect. He confirms the main colour will be black and he expects “Oil Country” to be on the crest.
“I have a little bit of info,” he said. “I was told there was a Flint Tropics motif to it. Now take that with a grain of salt. Listen, you see the City Connect jerseys in baseball, and the NBA does a version of that. With Hometown Remix, there are more liberties and more creativity that can flow through it. They’re trying something completely different.
“I was also told this was a counter to the current alternate, which has the vintage white and the Oilers cursive.”
The Flint Tropics, of course, was the fictional team portrayed in the 2008 comedy Semi-Pro starring Will Ferrell. If it’s similar to the Toronto Blue Jays’ City Connect jerseys, the “Oil Country” portion of the jersey could be the stylized colour portion against the black background.
A few NHL teams’ Hometown Remix threads have allegedly leaked already. For example, the Florida Panthers will have pink as the primary colour with a hockey stick under a palm tree, similar to other alternates they’ve worn.
Meanwhile, the New York Islanders will allegedly have a similar “Flying Fisherman” jersey, which was their primary uniform back in the late 1990s.
Last year, Gazzola had insight into the Oilers’ alternate jersey before the team released their cream uniforms worn in 2025-26.
