An Edmonton Oilers insider believes a Jack Roslovic extension could be a possibility.
Host of Oilers Now, Bob Stauffer, said on his Tuesday show to monitor Roslovic’s contract status moving forward.
The winger signed a one-year, $1.5 million “sweetheart” deal after going through the summer without a contract, putting pen to paper on October 8, the day of the season opener, and right in the middle of Edmonton’s first game of the year against the Calgary Flames.
“For the record, yes, I would look to extend Roslovic,” said Stauffer.
“I’m going to tell you right now, it’s going to be in the $4’s ($4 million range). If you are the Oilers, you want to keep it to a term of four years. We’re going to be monitoring that situation ongoing. He’s got the ability to play in the top-six on a regular basis.”
In 41 games this season, Roslovic has scored 14 goals and 22 points. His offensive production stalled when he missed almost a month of the season from late November to late December.
He’s scored twice in the last 13 games.
“He’s gone cold of late,” said Stauffer. “He has just a couple goals in his last 10 games, but there is a scenario where Roslovic could be a very effective third-line player, especially if Nugent-Hopkins gets moved to centre. That said, the line of Savoie-Roslovic-Samasnki did some good things last night.”
It would make sense that Roslovic is looking for term, as the Oilers are his fourth team in the last three seasons. He changed agents after going through the summer unsigned, reportedly rejecting an initial offer from Edmonton.
There is also precedence for Roslovic making $4 million before.
Roslovic was traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the New York Rangers in 2023-24, the final year of his $4 million cap hit. As a free agent in 2024-25, he signed with the Carolina Hurricanes on a one-year, $2.8 million deal.
Edmonton has four forwards with expiring contracts at the end of the season: Adam Henrique, Kasperi Kapanen, Curtis Lazar, and Roslovic. Connor Ingram and Calvin Pickard are the only other unrestricted free agents, while Spencer Stastney is a restricted free agent.
Twice, Roslovic has surpassed the 20-goal and 40-point plateaus. He registered a career high of 22 goals and 45 points in 2022-23.
