The Edmonton Oilers are suddenly on a losing streak.
After a third-period meltdown resulted in a 7-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, the Oilers again struggled to keep the puck out of the net in a 5-1 defeat by the Florida Panthers. Calvin Pickard allowed five goals on 39 shots while Zach Hyman scored Edmonton’s only goal.
Below are the highlights from the game.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS ARE PRESENTED BY BETWAY

The Panthers opened the scoring just over five minutes into the first period with a nice play in Edmonton’s zone. Oliver Ekman-Larsson rimmed the puck around the boards, Sam Bennett picked it up behind the net and centred a pass that Carter Verhaeghe was able to bury.
Late in the frame, the Panthers extended their lead when defenceman Brandon Montour buried his first goal of the season. Similar to the first goal, Florida gained possession deep in Edmonton’s zone, and Verhaeghe fired a pass into the high slot to Montour, who had activated from the blueline.
The Panthers got another goal on the board a few seconds later to make the score 3-0 heading into the first intermission. Aleksander Barkov carried the puck into Edmonton’s zone, won a battle to regain possession after a failed centring pass, and later wound up burying a rebound on an Oliver Ekman-Larsson point shot.
The Oilers finally broke through in the middle part of the second period when Zach Hyman buried his 18th goal of the season. A couple of quick passes in Florida’s zone gave Hyman a clear lane to the net and he deked out Sergei Bobrovsky and roofed a shot on his backhand.
The Panthers got that goal back and regained their three-goal lead before the end of the second period. Sam Bannett carried the puck into Edmonton’s zone, dragged it right into the slot, and then tucked it past Calvin Pickard’s stretched out pad to make the score 4-1.
Florida added an insurance goal early in the third period to kill any chances at a late-game rally. The Oilers had a prime opportunity in Florida’s zone and then the Panthers busted up ice on a three-on-one. Carter Verhaeghe stopped in the left faceoff circle and cleanly beat Pickard with a wrist shot.
