New York’s top line connected for a nice goal to open the scoring just over halfway through the first period. Chris Kreider fired the puck behind Edmonton’s net and Mika Zibanejad deflected it out front for Blake Wheeler, who buried a quick shot past Stuart Skinner.
The score remained 1-0 for the Rangers until the third period when the Oilers exploded for four goals in a matter of just over six-and-a-half minutes. The first came from Zach Hyman, who busted Jonathan Quick’s shutout bid with his 19th goal of the season.

Just over one minute later, Evander Kane put the Oilers up 2-1 with his first goal in six games. Kane got a shot on goal right off of a faceoff and followed up on the puck and buried the rebound.

Warren Foegele added to Edmonton’s lead a couple of minutes later with his fifth goal of the season. Ryan McLeod dropped the puck off just inside New York’s blueline and Foegele skated in against three Rangers defenders and roofed a shot on Quick.

That same line connected again on their next shift to put the Oilers up 4-1. Leon Draisaitl and Foegele went up the ice on a two-on-one and McLeod came in as the trailer and buried a puck that had come loose in the slot.

The Rangers managed to make things interesting later in the third period as Mika Zibanejad scored a power-play goal with just over five minutes left on the clock. The Rangers pulled their goalie but ultimately ran out of time as Will Cuylle scored in the final second and the Oilers won the game immediately following the ensuing faceoff.
