The Janitor has cleaned up in the free-agent market, and is set to return to the Edmonton Oilers on a three-year contract extension.
The deal will see him earn $1.45-million per year, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, who was first to report the signing.
Janmark, 31, had a huge playoffs for the Oilers as a key part of their historic penalty kill. He wasn’t just killing off penalties, he was scoring while short-handed, too, burying two of his four goals in the playoffs while the Oilers were down a man. He added two goals at even-strength and four assists, giving him eight points in 25 playoff games.
He had a fairly pedestrian regular season for the Oilers, scoring just four goals and 12 points in 71 games, including many stretches where he couldn’t seem to find his game. But his ability to be strong defensively at even-strength and on the penalty kill, as well as a massive playoff, has brought him back for three more years.
According to HockeyViz.com, Janmark contributed at the level of a third-liner, providing offence at a six percent rate below league average, defence at an eight percent rate above league average, and penalty kill at a two percent rate above league average.
For Janmark, this marks the first time since he signed his two-year entry-level deal in 2015 that he received a multi-year deal. His sixth other deals were all one-year pacts.
