Leon Draisaitl scores 1,000th NHL point: Best Oilers moments of 2025-26

This summer, Oilersnation will recap the top five Edmonton Oilers goals, the top five fights, and the top five overall moments from the up-and-down 2025-26 season.
On Dec. 16, 2025, Leon Draisaitl became the 103rd player in National Hockey League history to reach 1,000 points. It came about 13 months after McDavid became the 99th player to do so.
There wasn’t a whole lot to celebrate regarding the Oilers’ 2025-26 season. They never got going, and their first-round exit wasn’t a shock given how they played. That said, the best moment of the season was undoubtedly Draisaitl reaching the 1,000 mark.
Let’s look at our top moment of the 2025-26 season.
How did Leon Draisaitl score his 1,000th NHL point?
Four days before the Oilers played the Pittsburgh Penguins in Pennsylvania, they traded Stuart Skinner, Brett Kulak, and a 2029 second for Tristan Jarry. Skinner happened to start the game against his former team, and it didn’t go all that well.
He held them at bay for the first 11 and a half minutes, but the Oilers finally capitalized on a five-on-three. After Evan Bouchard and Leon Draisaitl passed back and forth twice, Draisaitl snapped a quick pass to McDavid on the other side of the zone, who in turn found Zach Hyman right in front of the net.
Of course, Hyman was able to jam it home, but instead of celebrating his goal, he immediately skated over to Draisaitl as the Oilers’ bench came out to celebrate something that has only been done by a finite number of players.
The descriptor “generational” is thrown around far too often. And while Draisaitl has been one of the best players in the league since 2018-19, he’s not this generation’s best talent. That title, of course, belongs to McDavid.
These two players aren’t the first pairing of generational talent and superstar. In fact, the last three generational talents had a player like Draisaitl. Wayne Gretzky had Mark Messier, Mario Lemieux had Jaromír Jágr, and Sidney Crosby has Evgeni Malkin. You could also argue Alex Ovechkin had Nicklas Bäckström, but generational should be reserved for the best player of a generation.
One thing all of these players except for Bäckström (and maybe Jágr) have in common is that they’re either in the Hall of Fame, or will be in the Hall of Fame when their career is done. McDavid may become the second player in history to reach 2,000 points, but Draisaitl is well on his way to cementing himself in 30 Yonge Street as well.
Every generational talent needs their superstar sidekick, and hopefully the 2026-27 season is the year both players finally get their name on the Stanley Cup. But for now, Draisaitl’s assist for his 1,000th career point ranks as the top Oilers’ moment from the 2025-26 season.
